We seem to have forgotten that
It’s all about Jesus.
All of it.
He is the centre of it all.
It breaks my heart that I can now visit a church and not hear His Name even mentioned.
Bono is mentioned.
A new Christian super-star leader is mentioned
Mother Theresa and even Buddha may be quoted
(How very relevant and emergent of you)
But where is Jesus?
He who is the Door, is now outside the door.
Jesus is unfashionable in His own church:
Truly the Father’s heart is grieved
The worst part?
Nobody even notices
They’re so busy laughing at the Pastor’s jokes
Busy building up their Christian reputations,
Their earthly kingdoms
Busy gettin’ known in Churchianity
Nobody cares
That the Body is dead if there is no Head
Oh yes,
There is a Body,
An eternal, living, breathing, organic, victorious Body
Of which Christ is Head!
Not where Jesus is forgotten
Dismissed, cast out
Not where people are ashamed of His Name
And His Word
(Funnily enough, there is no shame in distorting and abusing it
In order to compel the flock to “tithe”
There is a business to run after-all)
Where are you Jesus?
My Lord and My God
You are not there.
He who has eyes of fire
Would vomit that out of His mouth
There He is!
He is outside the camp
Always
I wonder who is willing to go to Him there?
Who is willing to let go of Christianized kingdoms?
Who is willing to forgo Christian-fame?
Who is willing to lose friends for Him?
Who is willing to be considered a crack-pot for Him?
Who is willing to go outside the camp
To bear with Him His reproach?
This will be the test of the Christian in these the last days.
What is it you are after?
What do you really want?
Not a ministry, not a creed, not an organisation,
Not structure, not even Christianity
But Him, the Person
At the end of it all,
That’s what it comes down to.
There is nothing else
But Him

That is so very tragic. Why bother to go to church if Jesus isn’t mentioned??? Jesus if the way, the truth and the life. He is the great “I am”. He is the beginning and the ending, the door of the sheep, the light of life, the Saviour, our Lord, the Prince of Peace, the Bridegroom, the everlasting One……………….. I could go on and on and on – Jesus is everything to His flock and they will “not hear the Voice of another”.

I think a lot of people don’t mind going to a church where Jesus isn’t mentioned because they don’t really want to hear about Him, let alone meet with Him, they’d rather hear something that appeals to their flesh – something about themselves.
The day is upon us of which Paul warned Timothy : “For the time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine but according to their own desires because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables…” 2 Timothy 4:3,4
That time has arrived my friend!

This is painful, but true. The small group we belonged to did a study promoting the prosperity gospel. We challenged it and they defended their choice. This fall they did not invite us back! We found a congregation that honours Jesus, even though they haven’t got the friendly and inviting part down yet. We are grateful to God for it, though, for we do not like to be without a spiritual community. Religious institutions don’t like Jesus, Who demands all the credit and loyalty. We choose Jesus just for that reason.
Peace

Well done for challenging that false gospel. Not many will. I am glad to hear you have found somewhere where Jesus is central. It is so sad that it is getting harder and harder to find that when, really, He should be everything to us. You are so right. God wants all of us, not just a small bit, not just for 2 hours on a Sunday. He demands our life, our commitment, our faithfulness, our love. And so He should – He is a mighty, faithful, loving, giving God!
God bless you in your new fellowship,
Belinda 🙂
